Grammys 2006: The Mariah Comeback That Didn’t Quite Arrive

Y'all were secretly convinced Mariah Carey was going to win everything.

That's why we're having this conversation.

The anticipation of Mimi had provided the biggest buzz for the 48th Annual Grammy Awards, held at 8 pm of February 8 in Los Angeles. And with good reason: The Emancipation of Mimi was 2005's biggest selling album, and made the 'Comeback Queen' one of three artists with the most '06 Grammy nominations, at eight.

Alas, tonight, Mariah wasn't so much on fi-yahr. With 5/4 odds to win Record of the Year, she, well, lost. That and the other major awards she was up for. She did tie with another artist for having won the year's second most Grammys, at three, albeit her awards only reiterated the one thing we already knew she could do well. Not jiggling, you American idiot – singing. Ending her 16-year Grammy drought, Miss Mariah won Best R&B Song, Best Contemporary R&B Album, and Best Female R&B Vocal Performance.

With 7/5 odds, Green Day beat Mimi at the mucho grande Record of the Year with Boulevard Of Broken Dreams, off of American Idiot, which had won Grammy Best...
